Goodbye 2017 - Year-End Reflections

Goodbye 2017, Hello New Year

Hi Friend,

Happy New Year! Here we are again, December 31st, and it’s time to re-focus and set new intentions, or “sankalpas,” for the upcoming year. In yoga, a sankalpa is a short phrase or sentence, clearly and concisely expressed, using the same wording each time, to bring about a positive change in one’s life. We often work with our sankalpas in the practice of Yoga Nidra (follow the link below to watch a free video). Before setting new intentions, it’s important to take a look at the past year and reflect on what happened.

new years 2018

To set yourself up for success in 2018, take a moment today and answer these questions while looking back on 2017:

  • What am I most grateful for?

  • What is something I failed at and what did I learn?

  • What goals did I achieve?

  • What goals were not met and why?

  • What new skills did I acquire?

These are just a few of many questions you can ask yourself to review your actions and outcomes in 2017.

In a political turbulence of 2017, the most valuable learning has been the healing value of listening more than talking, embracing differences and finding common ground.   I am grateful for the sacred work I have the blessing to share with my clients.   I am grateful for my friends, family and most significantly, for my path of yoga with my teacher, Yogarupa Rod Stryker.   I am grateful for the amazing technology that allows for joint replacement (my knee and the joints of several friends).

In the new year, I intend to continue to deepen my focus on Therapy as a Spiritual Practice, integrating the methods I bring as a psychotherapist with the healing and meditation practices of yoga to bring lasting transformation.

Back to you – Do you make the time to reflect on the past year? What are your goals for the new year? Both personally and professionally.
